Quality, here, is not an adjective on a brochure; it is a sequence of checks that each lot passes before it is allowed to travel. From hand-sorting at origin to a sealed sample taken minutes before the container closes, every step leaves a paper trail a quality department can verify.

Hand-sorted and graded at origin

Sorting happens by hand on tables in N’Djamena, not on a conveyor belt. Graders separate hashab-type nodules — the harder gum, sorted into grades 1 and 2 — from Seyal nodules, which are more friable and graded on their own scale. The distinction is visual and tactile, made lot by lot by trained staff.

A grade is assigned before a lot is bagged, not adjusted afterward to fit an order. What is sold as grade 1 hashab left the sorting table as grade 1 hashab.

An independent laboratory opens a file on every lot

A sample of each lot is sent to an independent laboratory of the SGS type before shipment — we do not analyse our own gum. Five parameters are measured on every lot: moisture, total ash, acid-insoluble matter, optical rotation and microbiology.

The certificate carries the lot number and travels with the shipping dossier. Nothing is summarised or rounded on our side between the laboratory’s figure and the figure you receive.

Pre-shipment inspection, sealed sampling

Before a container is closed, an independent inspector counts bags, checks packing and condition, and draws a sealed sample under a numbered seal. The seal number is recorded on the inspection report, so a buyer can confirm on arrival that the sample matches the seal that travelled.

A buyer’s own inspector is welcome to attend this step. We would rather add a second set of eyes than remove one.

Which laboratory carries out the analyses?

Independent laboratories of the SGS type, never our own facility. We name the laboratory used for a given lot on request, and the certificate carries the laboratory’s own letterhead and reference, not ours.

What specifications can you meet?

Specifications are agreed per contract, against the grade and volume you need — we would rather set a figure with you in writing than print a generic range that does not bind either side.

What happens if a lot fails analysis?

It does not ship. A failed lot is set aside, and either re-sorted and re-tested or removed from the export programme. We would rather absorb that cost in N’Djamena than pass a doubtful lot on to you.
