Acacia Seyal Gum (Friable Gum, E414) — Chad Origin

Acacia Seyal, the friable gum known in Chad as talha, has become the raw material behind the prebiotic acacia-fibre trend. MAMO International supplies it in bulk, direct from the Chadian gum belt, graded, hand-sorted and analysed per lot for buyers worldwide of acacia gum at wholesale volumes, FOB Douala.

Acacia Seyal, known locally as talha

Acacia Seyal is a different species from Acacia Senegal, and it forms a different gum: friable rather than hard, breaking more easily into smaller fragments once dried. Nodules are hand-collected from tapped trees across the Sahelian belt, in the same way as Senegal, but from a different tree with a different range.

In Chad, talha is drawn mainly from the Salamat and Chari-Baguirmi regions. Our N’Djamena team buys it from named producer groups in those zones, at the same harvest campaign as Senegal, running from November to March.

02

Its rise with the prebiotic acacia-fibre trend

For years, Acacia Seyal was traded as a lower-value substitute for Senegal. That position has shifted. Seyal gum is unusually rich in soluble dietary fibre and forms low-viscosity solutions even at high concentration, which is exactly what ingredient manufacturers need to build a soluble prebiotic fibre that can be added to a drink or a bar without changing its texture.

That functional profile, combined with a clean-label, plant-based, non-GMO story, has pushed acacia fibre into gut-health beverages, nutrition bars and dietary supplements across Europe and North America, and pulled Seyal demand up with it.

Other uses: confectionery and technical applications

Outside fibre, Seyal remains a working ingredient in confectionery, where it serves as an economical binder and glazing agent, and in a range of technical applications — adhesives, textile printing pastes, lithographic solutions — that do not require the higher purity or viscosity profile reserved for Senegal.

Ingredient manufacturers usually take raw Seyal gum and process it further, by milling or spray-drying, into the fibre powders sold under their own brands. That further processing happens downstream, in the customer’s plant; our part is delivering a consistent, documented raw material to work from.

Grade 1 and grade 2, hand-sorted nodules

Seyal nodules are smaller and more brittle than Senegal, and are hand-sorted on tables in N’Djamena by size, colour and cleanliness. Grade 1 covers the cleanest, most uniform nodules; grade 2 shows more natural variation at the same purity criteria. Both are suitable feedstock for further processing into acacia fibre.

Sorted lots are packed in 25 kg or 50 kg woven bags, stencilled with the lot number that links the bag to its zone record and its certificate of analysis.

From samples to a trial container

We sell Acacia Seyal in bulk on standard incoterms — FOB Douala or CIF major ports worldwide — with payment by confirmed irrevocable letter of credit or documentary collection. First orders start with a 20 ft trial container, roughly 20 tonnes, alongside samples and the specimen certificate of analysis.

Every first collaboration starts with samples and a trial container. We earn volume; we do not ask for it.

QUESTIONS

Three questions buyers ask.

Is Seyal food-grade E414?

Yes. Acacia Seyal gum carries the same additive status, E414, as Acacia Senegal, and is subject to the same purity criteria under EU Regulation 231/2012. The difference between the two species is functional — viscosity, solubility, typical application — not food-safety status. Each lot of Seyal we ship carries its own certificate of analysis proving compliance.

What is acacia fibre used for?

Acacia fibre is a soluble, prebiotic dietary fibre ingredient added to beverages, nutrition bars, dairy alternatives and supplements, valued for its high fibre content, low viscosity in solution and clean-label positioning. It is typically produced by further processing, such as milling and spray-drying, of raw Acacia Seyal gum, which is the material we supply in bulk to ingredient manufacturers.

Minimum order quantity?

First orders start with a 20 ft trial container, roughly 20 tonnes, on standard incoterms FOB Douala or CIF major ports worldwide, paid by confirmed irrevocable letter of credit or documentary collection. Samples and a specimen certificate of analysis are available before any commitment.
